Fishing as a Whole

Fishing has become a well-known and popular sport throughout the world. It is so popular that over 50 million Americans alone go fishing each year making it the 4th most popular sport. Fishing can bring people together through competitions and other events. People will also commit their livlihoods to fishing as a professional fisherman and participate in commercial fishing for profit. Many people will participate in fishing tournaments such as White Marlin Open which takes place in Ocean City, Maryland draws in a large range of skilled competitors in the hopes for a large cash grand prize that draws in thousands every year. Fishermen use a variety of different fishing rods and reels that are best suited for the different environments fishing can take place.

Spinning rods are considered to be the most versatile and easy to use for any kind of fisherman. This particular rod uses a spinning reel that will sit just below the rod as to provide the best power and stability. Spinning rods allows for fisherman the options to choose between a wide range of lengths, powers, and actions to match the type of fish they are looking for. Being a more durable rod then spinning rods, casting rods are used by more experienced fishermen and such rods usually designed to handle heavier lines. Casting rods are used best when dealing with species that life in dense vegetation. Trolling rods are a special type of rod that is used best in the specific fishing method known as trolling. Trolling is when the rod to left mounted to a holder while the line is dragged slowly behind the boat. Surf rods are made for saltwater and are necessity when fishermen use heavy lines and lures for much larger fish species. Surf rods with usually have a much larger handle when compared to other kinds of fishing rods as the larger handle allows for a greater control when reeling in their lines. The larger rod also allows for a greater distance when casting. Fly fishing rods are the lightest of the fishing rods but require the most technique when fishing. Fly fishing rods come in a variety of different sizes and come in multiple pieces for an easier transport. Finally, there are ice rods which are usually shorter than the other fishing rods because these types of rods require no casting. Ice rods come in different powers and the kinds of styles used in ice fishing is unique to the category.
